Eco Warrior: 5 Epic Sustainable gift ideas that are Eco friendly.

It’s heading into frantic ‘eek Christmas is around the corner, what on earth do I get cousin Kelly this year? Or what about Dad? He’s always so tricky!’ territory. I am a huge fan of gifting based on love over excess and choosing meaningful gifts rather than heading aimlessly to a mall and spending $100 on Uncle John because you ‘have to’. I have compiled the below 5 epic gift ideas that are thoughtful, full of love and won’t cost you an arm and a leg.

Gifting Spiced nuts in a Jar for a sustainable gifting option

Bake! Starting with our delicious Spiced Nut recipe. These nuts have been a feature on our family Christmas holidays for years and instantly give me all the festive vibes. As well as making them for yourself and fellow family members, these Spiced nuts make for great gifts. Super easy to make, you can whip these these guys up in an hour, pop them in jars with a cute piece of fabric on top & a little gift tag around it ready to gift. If you head to your local Salvos store they have recycled jars for a steal of a price. Other things I love to bake for Christmas treats are Roasted Chickpeas, fudge, coconut ice or anything that will last a few days.

Beeswax wraps make for the perfect gifts
    • Make wax wraps. I have made these a few times and there are a couple of different ways to go about it. Depending on how your wax comes (either pellets or a block that you can grate) will make a difference to the outcome. We recently made some more and followed this youtube which was our best attempt yet!

    • Create a gift voucher. This could be anything from a days work in the garden to a free taxi ride home after a night out to an ice cream date one afternoon to a home-cooked meal one evening. Perhaps your a masseuse and can give an in home massage? Or an arborist to trim trees? How about a Manicure? The possibilities are endless and can be tailored perfectly to the special recipient which is the best thing about gifting! (We also sell online Gift Vouchers that are emailed via a printable PDF. You can check these out here)

Get creative and make Candles in upcycled Crystal glasses / vases / bowls. My mum has been making these for years and they look so beautiful! They’re really easy to make (albeit a little messy) and all youo need is ***Once you have these, head to your local Op Shop to pick up some beautiful & cheap Jars or crystal glassware to pour the candles into. It can be a nice idea to gift a matching set for a dinner table or a collection of 3 mis-matched jars look awesome bundled together too!

    Cookie in a Jar recipe
    • Bake these killer cookies that are guaranteed to impress. (I swear you won’t receive a single complaint!) To present you can either wrap them in a wax wrap with a bow at the top, scrunch up the baking paper they were cooked on with a bow & gift tag or layer them inside a Jar that you have picked up from your local op shop / re-purposing within your house. Better yet? Let them make the cookies and gift them the dry ingredients in a Jar!
These 5 epic and thoughtful Gift ideas shout love and thoughtful-ness from the rooftop and you don’t even have to step foot into a mall to create them! I would LOVE to hear what you end up making for your special humans this Christmas or if you have any cool ideas for us too! Feel free to leave a comment below or email us. Happy gift creating legend! x
