MEET THE SAINTS: WHO IS ST JOHN?

Over the coming weeks we are so excited to shed some light on who we have chosen (After receiving overwhelming suggestions and feedback from you guys!) as our new St pendants and the meaning behind them. Today let's meet St John and learn more about the legend behind his name.....

History 101: Who is St John? 

St. John the Apostle was the son of Zebedee and Salome and was one of the twelve apostles. It is thought that John was the oldest and only apostle to not die like a martyr.

Saint John was deemed as the patron saint of love, loyalty, friendships and authors. He and Peter were the only two apostles sent by Jesus to prepare the final Passover meal which was the last meal for Jesus. During this meal, Saint John sat next to Jesus, leaning on him for support and hence, living up to his name as the saint of loyalty and friendships. 

Saint John was the only one of the twelve apostles not to have abandoned his friend Jesus at the hour of his passion. He stood faithfully at the cross when Jesus appointed him guardian of his mother, again, showcasing his love and loyalty to his friend.

After the Assumption of Mary, John went to Ephesus according to the tradition of the Church to honor the promise he had made to Jesus.

What material is the St John pendant made from ? 

All Luna & Rose jewelry is made from certified recycled Sterling Silver that has been processed in Thailand from old scrap metals, computer parts and old jewelry. This is then purified, cleaned and regenerated into out 100% Sterling Silver that we combine with an alloy (to make it stronger – we can’t make jewelry from 100% Sterling Silver!) to make all of our jewelry with. Our Gold pieces are then plated 3 times with 18kt Gold plating. We are currently sourcing a recyclable 18kt Gold recycled material to use also…watch this space!

The production of Luna & Rose pieces stems from designer Rosie Shelton’s passion for a more sustainable way of manufacturing and an ability to create the Luna & Rose collections in a completely closed loop production whereby there is zero waste. Rosie is also passionate about creating connection and transparency with her manufacturing and artisans who create the Luna & Rose designs, making sure the Luna & Rose customers knows exactly who made and how their items were produced.
