THE FABRIC OF OUR CLEAN SOCIETY

In keeping with our dedication to planet-centric design, we work with only the best natural fibres that will eventually, after a really good time here on Planet Earth, compost straight back into the ground again. Welcome home little ones.

Soft luxurious Organic Cotton

ORGANIC COTTON

Deliciously soft organic cotton is the fabric of choice for all of our t-shirts and boy does it feel good. In case you missed it, cotton is the fluffy staple that grows inside a protective case around the seeds of plants. Once the cotton clouds have grown and are ready to pick, the fibre is spun into a thread to make our lovely light, breathable tees. Our organic cotton fabric paired with our organic plant-based dyes make our t-shirts almost good enough to eat. But no one wants to be the gal chewing on her sleeve, so maybe stick to the poke bowls.

To learn more about how fan-trucking-tastic organic cotton is, head over to this blog post we prepared earlier.

LINEN / RAYON

Mother Nature did good when she thought up linen, the most luxurious fibre of all and the star of our ‘Easy on the Earth’ apparel collection. Linen has so many pros it’s a little overwhelming, but the lightweight, breathable benefits are a good starting point. We use linen for almost all of our shirts, shorts and pants, while the strength of the fibre makes it perfect for our collection of tote bags.

So where does this magical fibre hail from? Linen is made from the flax plant and is a gentle crop that helps deter weeds from the plants around it. Flax is typically grown without the use of herbicides or pesticides, and every part of the plant is turned into a by-product. Ever wondered where linseeds come from? Well, now you know.

The production of flax requires a quarter less water and energy than traditional cotton, oh and one last thing, linen also gets softer and more awesome with each and every wear. The one teeny downside? Dust off that iron girl, linen is a creaser. Soz about that, but totally worth it - right?

We use a Linen/Rayon blend for a lot of our Plant Dyed Apparel due to it's extra strength and smooth crease-free appearance (And it takes to our Plant Dye colours like a CHAMP!)

Our Pepper colourway is 100% Linen however!

Plant Dyed Flax Linen

RAMIE

Ramie is one of the oldest natural plant fibres in the world which grows consistently throughout the year, using much less water than other natural crops to produce. Better yet, its natural resistance to bacteria, mildew and mould means that it’s easy to look after and able to grow without the use of toxic herbicides or pesticides. It’s superior durability, strength and ability to hold the shape it’s formed into without wrinkling makes it the perfect material for our range of our sandals, Tilly Towels and wallets. Thank you ramie.

BAMBOO

There is truly so much good stuff about this fibre it's hard to know where to start. Here are some top facts for your morning Cup of Tea perusal:

1. It’s the fastest growing plant in the world (growing x3 faster than Trees!)

2. Bamboo Produces 35% more oxygen and absorbs 5x more carbon than other trees.

3. Bamboo is 100% Biodegradable

4. The Bamboo Plant is extremely easy to grow - Yes you, even YOU can grow it. For real.

5. Harvesting for a crop doesnt kill the plants - the roots arnt used & they resprout for their next yield just days after harvesting!

6. Bamboo one of the fastest growing crops used for fibre production, it grows around 25cm a day!

7. Bamboo has high natural antibacterial properties

8. It only needs rainwater to thrive. NO irrigation thank you!

9. Bamboo doesn’t require pesticides or fertilizers....

It's basically the most laid back, chilled out fibre on the planet. Oh, & it makes EXTREMELY soft lush fabric like our Bamboo Fleece Billie Jumper!

the choice of materials makes all the difference

MORE NATURAL FABRICS WE USE...

LINEN / RAYON

As above, Linen is an unsung hero of the sustainable fibre world.

Linen is made from the flax plant and is a gentle crop that helps deter weeds from the plants around it. Flax is typically grown without the use of herbicides or pesticides, and every part of the plant is turned into a by-product. Ever wondered where linseeds come from? Well, now you know.

Combine that with Rayon which is made from a reconstituted natural fibres (Wood pulp, Bamboo, Cotton lint) which adds in a lovely drape to the fabric as well as helps with the niggly 'wrinkles' that 100% Linen can show up.

For this reason, we choose to use a Linen/Rayon blend for a lot of our Plant Dyed Apparel due to it's extra strength and smooth crease-free appearance (And it takes to our Plant Dye colours like a CHAMP!)

VISCOSE LINEN

Originating from the combination of natural fibers, viscose linen blends the best of both worlds: the rustic charm of linen and the smooth finish of viscose. Linen is derived from flax plants, which grow in cooler climates, while viscose is a regenerated fiber made from wood pulp. The fabric is crafted by weaving linen and viscose together to create a breathable, light, and smooth material.

Fun fact: it’s made through a process that requires minimal water usage, making it a sustainable choice!

HEMP / COTTON

Hemp is one of the oldest fibers known to humans, dating back thousands of years. It’s made from the Cannabis sativa plant, which grows quickly with little need for water or pesticides. Hemp is then blended with cotton, which softens the fabric and makes it more versatile. This eco-friendly fabric reduces the environmental impact of farming, as hemp naturally enriches the soil. Hemp cotton has a rich history of use in textiles, from sails to ropes, and today it offers a more sustainable and comfortable alternative.

RECYCLED POLYESTER

Recycled polyester is a modern hero of sustainability. It’s made by melting down plastic bottles, textiles, and other polyester waste to create new fibers. This process helps reduce plastic waste and lessens the demand for new polyester, which is derived from petroleum.

Recycled polyester offers the same durability and versatility as its virgin counterpart, but with a much smaller carbon footprint.

Recycled polyester can be turned into new fabric again, making it a true “circular” fabric...

100% COTTON CANVAS

Canvas originated as a sturdy fabric made from hemp, but over time, it became more commonly associated with cotton. Cotton canvas is made from the fibers of the cotton plant, which are spun into yarn and woven into a heavy-duty fabric. It’s a durable and breathable fabric, perfect for everything from tents to bags to clothing. The production process is water-intensive, but modern cotton farming practices are improving sustainability. As cotton canvas ages, it softens and becomes even more unique!

The fabric of our future is woven with sustainable choices

and it deserves the very best care
