Our new Aperitivo collection is here! Serving up 4 new Patron Saint necklace pendants, we are excited to shed more light on who we have chosen (After receiving overwhelming suggestions and feedback from you guys!) as our new St pendants. Today let's meet St Raphael and the legend behind his name.
For a 2 minute history on the Angel of St Raphael, read on and find out what he was 'famous' for and why we have made him into a beautiful piece of jewellery...
St Raphael was a seraph. What is a Seraph you say? An Angel with six wings and often depicted in drawings as child-like in the body. Not only that, St Raphael was also remembered as the chief Guardian angel, instructed to watch over all mankind and keep them safe from harm. Today he is known as the Patron Saint of Happy Meetings, Doctors and Nurses... read on to find out why!
His name means "divine healer" and is often represented in drawings with a young blind young man named Tobiah and his dog. Tobiah and his dog travelled with St Raphael and accompanied him as a true companion wherever he traveled.
St Raphael is also often is represented with a stick, sandals, a gourd and a satchel held by a shoulder strap around his shoulder. In all writings it was said that he was a very kind hearted, warm and patient being.
On one of St Raphael’s trips with Tobiah (& pooch), Raphael invited Tobiah to marry a girl called Sarah. Sarah’s father was the demon Asmodeus who proudly killed every man that Sarah married on the night of the wedding before the marriage could be consummated.
Raphael guided Tobiah through the evening and taught him how to safely enter the marriage with Sarah...without getting murdered! Successfully consummating their marriage, St Raphael also miraculously managed to get Tobiah to regain his sight again – what a man!
By driving the evil spirit from Sarah as well as restoring Tobiah's vision, St Raphael’s magic was felt by all of those in his presence and a proven ability to receive great things to those he loved and cared for. And this my friends is the reason that St Raphael is known as the Patron Saint of Happy Meetings, Doctors and Nurses!
Luna & Rose designer Rosie wanted to create a brand that had connection and transparency from the artisans who make the product to their customers, suppliers, designers and everything and one in between. She wants you to know exactly who is making your pieces for you, their working conditions, how your pieces are made and where the materials come from.
With all that in mind, the St Raphael pendant (And all of the Luna & Rose jewellery) is made from certified recycled Sterling Silver that has been processed in Thailand from old scrap metals, computer parts and old jewelry. This Sterling Silver is then purified, cleaned and regenerated into out 100% Sterling Silver that we combine with an alloy (to make it stronger – we can’t make jewelry from 100% Sterling Silver!) to make all of our jewelry with… and wallah, one shiny looking, beautifully crafted St Raphael pendant we have!
St Raphael will be your new best partner in life because of his ability to inspire new thoughts, feelings & pathways. He is said to help guide your next steps and help your choices in allowing you to have a life less stressful, more grounded and full of happiness! Being the Patron Saint of Happy Meetings, Doctors and Nurses, he is a pendant rich with meaning and connection.
Moreover, the oval shape of this pendant is one of our favourites! Not only is it guaranteed to look cute with all your outfits, it also makes for the perfect layering piece!
