We're all about hooking you up with ideas and inspiration for an epic holiday getaway and local North Shore Hawaiian beauty Casey Evans is here to let you in on her island hot spots - Yuss!
For me, just the word Hawaii is a huge weak spot. Although I am yet to travel to this island paradise, in my mind, 10 years from now I will be curled up in a rad little beach shack that has epic views our over the ocean, our vege patch growing on steroids from the lush humid weather and the beautiful crystal clear warm ocean just across the road.... To me, Hawaii seems like the perfect mash of NZ and Bali, my 2 'homes'. (Did I mention I have yet to visit this 'Hawaii'? I'm not even sure if these paradise's exist!?) Anyway when we recently connected with beach beauty Casey Evans, she kind confirmed everything I have pictured in my dreams. And, well, she's living it! Grab a coconut / Cuppa Tea & dive in (Warning, may provoke Holiday planning... just sayin')
Hey Casey, Thanks for taking 10 and talking us through your life in Hawaii – I can’t wait to find out more! Before we get the good stuff, can you tell us a little bit about you and what you get up to with you Monday – Friday?
As silly as this sounds, I’ve learned from the past when life hits you (and it does for everyone is different ways) to make it a priority it get some beach time in each day. Even if it’s Just to go for a quick swim the ocean kind of serves as a refresh button for me, a place of peace. This summer has been especially flat (no swells = no waves) so my friends and I have been diving and hanging out on floaties all summer.
Sounds amazing! So what keeps you busy on the weekends?
Although you can’t tell from instagram, I work just as much as I play, if not more. If I’m not taking product shots or shooting creative content for brands I’m making Mai Tais and tropical cocktails at Roy’s Beach House. It’s a pretty sweet gig, I get to be apart of families and couples memoires on vacation who come and stay at Turtle Bay Resort. The view from the bar is epic too, I get to stare out at Kuilima Cove so I can’t complain, even the days I work I’m beach side.
And where abouts do you currently live?
I’m currently living “up Pupukea” which is a dream come true for me. It’s an amazing community up on Pupukea Mountain, just 5 min away from the beach but tucked up away from the busy beach scene. For years I dreamt up of a lush tropical home and this place is it! It’s much cooler up here during the winters, and there are plenty of spots to shoot and take pictures, so much tropical and lush backdrops up here.
Rad! I’m dying to travel to Hawaii. I hear its kind of like a tropical New Zealand…. So, If we only had 5 days in your neck of the woods, where would you be taking us for a killer breakfast date?
I love making breakfast at home, mostly because I wake up too late to get it anywhere else, but if I were to wake up early I would take you to Ted’s Bakery for an egg sandwich and then walk across the street to Sunset beach and enjoy it there.
And after that… where would you send us to for your favorite local beach?
For some reason Ke-iki’s Beach is a super special spot for me (a for a lot of people) it can tend to get pretty crowded on the weekends. Ke-iki beach is my happy place and where I found my first sunrise shell! During the summer the water is crystal clear, turquoise blue and runs deep enough to feel like you’re swimming out in the middle of the ocean.
Now, we’ve decided to stay for 5 days. We have a van. And a tent. Where should we go?
Westside! Over by Yokohama Bay if we’re lucky enough, it’s a great spot to swim with dolphins and snorkel.
Other than what you just described to us, where’s your top place to travel to anywhere in Hawaii?
I always tell people if they have the time to go interisland-you should! The flights are pretty affordable and all of the Hawaiian Islands are so different. Kauai is just gorgeous, filled with waterfalls and epic views. You will never see a more beautiful sunrise then from Haleakala on Maui, And Big Island has the best scuba diving!
If you won $10,000 tomorrow, what would you do with it?
Probably pay of (some) of student loans, but that’s such a boring answer. What I would really love to do is book a flight. Hands down, I would book a flight(s) for my friends/family and go just blow the entire winnings on one epic trip.
Whats your most memorable place that you have ever travelled to?
I have some amazing memories of Bali and made some life long friends in Amed. I would go back in a heartbeat, but the most memorable and meaningful trip for me was last April when I was in Australia. My father’s Australian, so I got to see my grandparents and family that I haven’t seen in years. Although it was a completely new place it felt more like a homecoming.
Why was it so rad?
We went all over Sydney and Manly up to Byron Bay. I guess it was such a rad trip because it felt like home. Everyone has such amazing style; it’s a combination of laid-back Hawaii vibes with a dash of city chic. I could definitely see us moving to Australia in the future.
And last but not least, where are you saving up to to travel to next? (Coming to visit us in Bali!?)
My bf (josh) and I have started a tradition of traveling for our Birthdays. We’re hoping to make a trip to Hong Kong this November for my big 29. Him and I have never done the Europe trip either so that’s definitely something we are working (hustling) really hard to save up for. I’m kind of obsessed with wine-ing and dining. If I didn’t spend all my money on bikinis I’d be spending it on lavish meals and cocktails. You can say I’m a wanna-be-foody. The favorite part about traveling is trying all sorts of different foods and local dishes.
Thanks for chatting Casey, hopefully see you across the globe some day! Keep being the Hawaiian babe you are x
And Thank you!! Please come visit us on North Shore soon and know you have a place to stay and a Mai Tai waiting! Aloha xx Casey
