JEWELLERY - TAKE CARE, WOULD YA?
We sleep well at night, comforted by the fact that we produce only the best quality jewellery for our customers made from high-quality purified recycled sterling silver. Every piece of Luna & Rose jewellery is handmade from precious metals and it needs to be looked after carefully by its new owner. That’s you by the way.
Please read the Quality and Care instructions below to ensure the longevity of your pieces. Afterall, you wash your clothes on a weekly basis, why wouldn't you do the same for your jewels?
- Always protect your jewellery from chemicals, including perfume. Yes, your Britney Spears Fantasy is a chemical. Sterling silver is a soft metal and our gold is layered on top of this, so harsh chemicals can affect it over time, making it weaker, changing its colour and removing its lustre. We suggest putting on your perfume before your jewellery to the side of your neck, wrists or onto your clothes rather than your skin where your jewellery will rest for the remainder of the day.
- Abrasive and hard surfaces can scratch your jewellery. Try to store your precious pieces in a soft lined box (like the one it came in - go figure) or a fabric pouch so that your jewellery pieces don't rub together.
- Clean your jewellery regularly, using a professional jewellery cleaning cloth. This will ensure your pieces stay shiny and the exact colour that you purchased, for years to come. You can purchase one from our website over here. Always read the manufacturer's instructions first before using another type of cloth on your jewellery to make sure that it is soft enough for sterling silver and gold plating.
- Pretty please avoid swimming in chlorine and salt water with your jewellery on. Over time, chlorine can cause damage to all metals as well as draining colour and shine from the pieces. Best to pop them under your beach towel and swim free and easy. The odd slip up here and there won't change the colour or tarnish your pieces straight away, but over time regular dipping will take its toll.
- Avoid wearing your jewellery while cleaning, gardening or doing hard heavy labour. Or just avoid hard heavy labour in general, yuck. Even basic household cleaning fluids have the ability to reduce the lustre of the metal, while harsher products will play havoc on the sterling silver and gold plating. As much as we want you to show off your shinys, save it for later.
- We know personal hygiene is key, but try to remove your pieces before washing the bod and hands. This is a precaution to ensure they remain in tip top shape forever, but they will not change colour or tarnish if you don't do this daily. If your piece happens to get wet, be sure to thoroughly dry your jewellery. Think of your jewels the same way as you treat your favourite dress, only you get to wear your jewellery every single day.
APPAREL - WEAR MORE, WASH LESS
Caring for your Luna & Rose garments the correct way reduces negative environmental impact, helps them to last a longer, conserves natural resources and keeps textile waste out of landfills - kapeesh? Here are some easy steps you can take to extend the life of your Luna & Rose pieces:
- USE COLD WATER. Washing in cold water is better for the environment and better for your garments - one of those ‘win win’ situations you’ve heard so much about. Using cold water helps reduce colour fading and requires less energy.
- HANG DRY, DUDE. Instead of throwing everything in the dryer, try to hang dry when possible. This saves electricity and avoids fibre degradation, maintaining the integrity of your garments. As all of our clothing items are organically dyed by plants, you’ll need to hang your items in the shade to prevent colour change.
- ON THE SPOT CLEAN. Got a drip of coffee on your fave shorts? Accidentally dip your elbow into the yoghurt pot? Spot clean to the rescue. Simply grab a cloth and spot clean the area instead of putting the entire garment in the washing machine. We like to use a natural soap and lukewarm water for best results, then leave it to dry outside.
- GET BETTER AT FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS. Each fabric and fibre has different ways of working, hence the always helpful (sometimes niggly) care labels in every garment you purchase. It is super important to follow these instructions to make sure you are looking after your item the best way possible. And no, you can’t wash your lycra with your linen! Pete's sake.
- WEAR AND REPAIR. Prevention is the best cure to keeping your threads looking top notch. We all know about that button graveyard, but a popped frock doesn’t mean it’s the end of the line for your otherwise shmick piece of clothing. All of our pieces come with spare buttons or alternatively, your local op-shop or sewing store will sell back-ups too. A little ripped seam from partying too hard? It’s time to brush off Nana’s sewing kit and put that needle and thread to work. By patching up small holes, ripped seams, lost buttons and loose threads means you will be able to enjoy your favourite apparel for many moons to come.

Though we take utmost care when handcrafting your Luna & Rose pieces, we’re not robots. The idea of an unhappy customer keeps us up at night, so we offer a ‘nurture service’ for some of our pieces.
