But why? We talk to Rosie about the launch of our new Organic Tote Bags

Organic Dyed Market Tote Bags by Luna & Rose sustainable and maintainable PrintI sit across from Rosie on the daily and her constant flow of ideas and inspiration continues to blow my mind. Never a dull moment, nor dull design, Rosie is always coming up with new initiatives or design ideas centred around sustainability. It’s obvious that her passion to run Luna & Rose in a ‘Sustainable & maintainable’ fashion runs deep and the constant desire to learn, create and act is her true passion. I grabbed her for a quick cup of Tea and asked her about her inspiration behind these new Tote Bags.

What inspired the launch of your new organic Dyed tote bags?

To offer something cute and almighty practical for our customers. As we thought about Christmas a few months ago, both me and my design assistant instantly thought about the over consumption that occurs during this time. We’re so proud to offer jewellery that is made with zero waste and in a completely closed loop production and we wanted to offer something else for our customers to wear and share during this time. By launching these totes now, we are not only inspiring and reminding people to be cautious of the excess packaging involved around shopping but also keeping top of mind that there are SO MANY ways to ensure you have a sustainable Christmas. Watch this space for my tips on this as I am currently writing a blog post on this too.

What was the design process?

  • Finally, we worked on tote colours with our Organic Dye house. This one is always a tricky one as dying with Organic matter can never be 100% exactly the same, batch after batch. So while you might approve one colour, you may very well just get a version of that for production. But to be fair? I kind of like the unknown -ness and letting nature take it’s path in the design process!
  • First step was to nail a style of tote bag that was going to be pratical for our customers. That meant designing them to be small enough for a quick market shop, big enough for a laptop and strong enough for a bag of apples! And then working out if / how to close the Tote Bag.
  • Next came designing the Prints to go on the bag. Our in house Graphic Designer & I sat down and nutted out more about the inspiration and idea behind the bags. We wanted something cute, punchy and noticeable!

What is the process of making these bags?

  • First the Tote-Bags are sewn by our lady-boss tailor Ayu in her home sewing studio with her cute AF kids running amock.
  • Once sewn to perfection, the Tote bags are taken and dyed in our organic dye factory as an entire piece
  • From here the bags are taken to our screen printers for the final water-based screen print
  • Finally, the bags are pressed and packaged for our lovely customers, wallah!

Where can we find you with your Tote bag?

If I am not using my tote as my main handbag (it has seriously become a main feature in wardrobe!) it will definitely be rolled up in my Matt & Nat handbag at the ready should I hit the markets, supermarket or library to take home a few extra books.

You will often find me heading out for a meeting with my laptop, wallet & keep cup all sitting pretty in my Tote.

I also find it’s a regular heading to friends houses filled with some wine & a few baked snacks! It really is the perfect size & piece.

Lastly, what is in your tote right now!

  • Good question! There is always something in there that’s for sure. Right now I am looking and I have my laptop charger, a note book, some candy (always!) some almonds and my keep cup - basically my daily essentials!
