For this months 'Women in Business in Bali' we thought there was no better human to chat to than our female founder of Luna & Rose, Rosie Shelton. Having lived on and off the island for what feels like forever, she sure knows a thing of two about manufacturing, sourcing, living in the tropics, local hot spots and what to avoid in Bali. 

We get it. Planning your Vacation to Bali can be overwhelming. I remember the very first time trying to work out where on earth to stay on the island and why everyone was telling me the same areas to stay in, knowing that there must be more to Bali than ‘Legian, Kuta, Seminyak & Ubud’! And that there is my friends… 

After 10 years on the island, here are our top picks and thoughts on where to stay when visiting this beautiful part of the world...

Eating in Canggu. It’s a lot. But in the most mouth watering, overwhelming, delicious, everything's on offer, anxiety inducing how-can-I-fit-it-all-in, kind of way!

I get messages almost every day asking for recommendations of where to eat in Canggu so I thought I would put together a list of my personal favourites. While I can (almost) assure you that there are no bad meals in Canggu, here is a few places that I would recommend to visit when you come to Canggu.

Galungan is a 10-day festival (in which there is 'Kuningan' on the last day.. another huge ceremonial day) has great cultural and spiritual significance for the Balinese people, as it signifies the victory of good over evil. 

If you've arrived or happened to visit Bali during this period, you're in luck! Here is a little more on what this ceremony is all about.

Fashion & Bali go together like two peas in a pod. Batch made production, supporting local artisans in their own community, hand screen-printing, business meetings beach-side....The list goes on.

And if there's a gal who knows the meaning of 'Work Life' balance on this island, Fred, the owner of Bali Based fashion Brand 'Les Basics' is it. Often seen island hopping on her weekends, jaunting back to Canada to visit Family (Or Greece!), Skiing in France but never without a hustle managing production, her growing Bali-based team and ensuring her Marketing is ready for the next product launch.... Take 5 and meet the lady boss behind Les Basics, a very popular Denim store based just down the road from our own shop in Canggu. 

Mother, Business Owner, Podcaster, Cafe Owner, Wife. There's not much that Bali Based ex-pat Paz Fourcard doesn't do, going about it in effortless style and ease. From running one of Bali's most Restaurants (Watercress, Milk & Madu), being a mother to 4 handsome boys, growing her business 'Bali Black Book' and most recently, starting her own podcast, Paz has been an inspiration for me personally and for many other women navigating business and motherhood, and the blurred lines and demands that come with that. 

We chat to her about life in Bali, running a business(s) here and what a day in the life looks like to this busy working Mumma.

To put it simply, they’re basically the same suburb only their split by ‘THE SHORTCUT’.  

What’s the big deal you might say? There isn’t one really….. (Depending on who you talk to… and how many times they’ve had to ‘Cross the cut’ that day) but to fully enjoy your time on holiday, the least amount of moving around would be ideal, at least in Canggu anyway.

Ok...Full disclaimer... this was one of the hardest articles to write, purely due to the fact that there is literally SO much good food in Berawa it's almost impossible to choose. You could eat at a different cafe for each day for weeks and not be disappointed! So, I've done the hard yards, eaten... returned...eaten again & decided on these top 5 places for breaky in Berawa. 

Early in 2020, before the madness of COVID really kicked into 2nd gear, we were lucky enough to open our first retail store in the seaside village of Berawa, Canggu on our favourite island of Bali. Designed by the incredible Becks Harrop Design, and pieced together by a variety of talented humans, we couldn't be happier with how our first retail space has turned out!
