As we’re launchingour new Signet Rings, why not take the time to learn more about this timeless piece of jewellery?
First and foremost, signet rings represent a wide range of personalized ring, usually representing family symbols, signs, monograms and more. They were used to represent someone’s identity and they were traditionally used to sign into melted wax. How amazing is that?! A unique representation of someone’s signature right on their finger. In that sense, signet rings were extremely meaningful.
What’s even crazier about this piece of jewellery is that it has been around for thousands of years and has never gone out of style. Ancient Egyptians first used them, and we’ve seen many variations of signet rings since then. From Ancient Greeks, Romans, to the Middle Ages, it was also believed that Signet Rings were an amulet for protection. As time went by, they also represented someone’s “importance”, their status in society and how powerful their family or house was for example. The more intricate the design was, the more powerful you were considered.
In history, the question of how to wear a signet ring has also been raised! Facing you or the world? Some were saying that the seal represented on your ring is a reminder of your duty to your family and should be worn facing you to remind you of that. Others considered that it was a symbol to show yourself to the outside world, and therefore should face them.
Signet rings were then traditionally worn on the pinky finger and used by gentlemen involved with business or politics. But in certain countries, in the Middle East particularly, they wear bold rings like signet ones on the thumb or middle finger, to represent their strength.Nowadays, they are worn by everyone, in every way but still represent years of history and legacy.
We’re so excited to launch this new collection, it truly is a way for you to become a part of our creative process as you can personalize them the way you want to! We’re happy to create a special piece for you that will be close to your heart. We love playing with classic jewellery and give it a modern twist, so we can’t wait to see what we come up with along with you!
