Bali Best Eats: Old Man's Canggu

Less of a ‘Best Eats’ post and more of a ‘Best eats with a vibe’, the renowned old mans bar/restaurant in Canggu has become a locals savior over the past couple of years. I remember when it first opened around 3 years ago and thinking ‘its too big, they will never get the foot traffic through here to fill the space’ and I couldn’t have been more in the wrong. With its 2 for 1 happy hours Monday-Friday, they soon got the ex-pat community dropping by daily for a quick bintang or $6 glass of wine and rest is history. It quickly got its name to be one of the only places to ‘party’ in canggu after 9pm, and now houses live music 3 or 4 nights a week and is THE place to party on the island of Bali come Wednesday night (Warning, people flock by the busloads –quite literally!)

As for the food, the crew at Old Man’s serve up a selection of fresh fish & chips, burgers, curries and vegetarian rice paper rolls. Nothing too fancy, but suits everyone from little grommets fresh out of the surf with Dad to the ‘I’ve accidentally started a drinking session and need food ASAP’ type of offering. Their 'buckets of fries are top notch' and hey, they even have their very own Ice Creamery inside!

Served up right above the car park at Batu Bolong beach, just down the road from the infamous beatlenut and Crate Café, Old Mans has become a tourist hot-spot and must visit over the past 12 months. With views looking out over the ocean at sunset, showers to freshen up post surf, 2 for 1 drinks most nights and live music, it’s hard to not love this now Canggu icon.
